Working in close cooperation with Product Management, Field Systems Engineering, and Technical Support, the Consulting Systems Engineer will play a key role in of Silver Peak's large customer deployments. The Consulting Systems Engineer will report directly to the Sr. Director of Product Management with “dotted line” reporting to the Director of Field Systems Engineering. The Consulting Systems Engineer is based in Silver Peak’s corporate office in Santa Clara, CA with primary responsibility for ensuring successful deployment of Silver Peak technology among our largest enterprise customer base.
Requirements
- MINIMUM experience for this position requires:
- Deep working knowledge of Enterprise-class L2/L3 networking and security equipment
- Functional experience in either sales engineering/technical sales roles, product/technical marketing, product line management, or engineering
- Experience with L4 – L7 protocols, and applications (file-sharing, messaging and collaboration, backup, virtualization) is a plus
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer Science or related field, advanced degree a plus
- 5+ years in datacom sales engineering, technical marketing, product line management, or engineering
- Strong familiarization with Enterprise Network design including LAN/WAN architectures for both Data Centers and branch offices

Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Go-to person and recognized Subject Matter Expert for deployment of Silver Peak solutions in complex, mission-critical customer networks. This requires:
- Deep understanding of Silver Peak technology and deployment models in conjunction with CCIE-level understanding of datacom equipment (routers, switches, and firewalls) and deployment models
- Deep understanding of enterprise-class data center architectures including high-availability deployments (WCCP, VRRP, PBR, etc)
- Participation in pre-sales and post-sales customer meetings, in person, by phone, and by WebEx, to fully understand the customer’s network and deployment requirements
- Follow-up and proactive consultation with customers’ key technical contacts on an on-going basis
- Continued communication with the assigned Technical Support Engineer and Field Sales team in order to remain abreast of customer priorities and future growth plans.
- Proactively document and communicate key insights and lessons learned to all relevant personnel in the company with the goal of raising the overall level of expertise across Silver Peak.
- Providing support to the customer and assigned Technical Support Engineer and Field Systems Engineer to successfully configure, install and manage deployments
- Occasional Travel as necessary to customer sites for critical issues or network design sessions.
- Stay abreast of Silver Peak technology and that of our major competitors in order to be able to successfully position Silver Peak technology. This requires
- Continued interaction with Product Management to understand and digest new advances in Silver Peak technology, software and hardware releases, and roadmaps
